Lockcon Turkey canceled ….

no lockcon in Turkey ...

We feared for it some time, but just received a mail that confirmed it. Officially the reason is ‘the crisis’ and that there is not enough budget …

Will report soon about the implications if I have more information …

* update: We are making an inventory of people who already booked an airplane ticket to Turkey. Please send me a mail and let me know (and how much you paid for the ticket).

* update 09/02: We are looking into some options. Latest May 1st we will come out with a statement/program about lockcon and the championships …

    Bummer. Major bummer.
I guess we can cancel the quest for cheap lodging?

Und hierfรƒยผr das ganze Theater ! Sehr unprofessionell ! Martina und Arthurmeister

  3. Sander says:

Damn, I was looking forward to that ๐Ÿ™

  4. NKT says:

I will be interested to find out exactly who put pressure on who.

  5. Walter says:

Too bad.. all that work.. for nothing?

  6. Walter says:

By the way, is going ahead without sponsoring not an option? Most people would have to pay travel and hotel themselves anyway. Or is there a hefty fee to get into the event as well that would have been sponsored?

Heartbreaking. By chance a friend asked me to wait 1 more day before we bought our plane tickets, thank goodness he did. Hope you get things sorted out, I’m sure it’s stressful for all involved. I wish you the best, Barry & look forward to seeing you at some point this year.

    OH SHIT.
I have already ordered two tickets with hotel for gerald and me.
Im sorry for you having all the work and all the frustration now.
Its very starnge that they cancel the event now for us.
This is fooling us nothing else…
Lockcon has to be done this jear it can bot be that someone gets a chance to break this down.
I wish you the best. Let me now if i can help.

I don’t think that ELF cancelled our event, they just didn’t keep their promise to pay for a part of it ๐Ÿ™

But given the high travel cost that this means for most of us, I vote for a simple solution that was so great and where we had so much fun in the past years: Sneek.
Wouldn’t that be a perfect substitute?

    Cheers
    Michael

It is a bummer, but …. such is life…

    What a pity!
    But … shit happens. %-)
I have to admit that I was not feeling too good about the location and was not sure whether I would attend or not. But seeing all the excitement and anticipation just disappear is not nice though.

Lockcon 2010 has to happen! I agree with MH: Why not go to a nice place like Sneek?
    Cheer up, Barry!

    Such a great shame ๐Ÿ™

I am sure there are a lot of people who are left feeling very disappointed and frustrated by this sudden and unfortunate news.

Whilst I am sure some will feel angry, I just hope people also realise how much time and energy must’ve been invested by Barry & the rest of the organising team (and of couse those who were planning to give presentations), not to mention the time Barry decided to take off his job at Cryptophone, in order to organise matters.

I feel sorry for all those affected, and I hope that further explanation is forthcoming – assuming disclosure is possible.

Assuming it can be rescheduled, I am sure the event will be a resounding success regardless of the venue.

    That is really too bad.

You all spent so much time and effort on this event.
I hope, we will see you in Sneek (?!) for the Lockcon 2010.

    Cheers
    Manfred

One more vote for sneek from me. I could afford flights and accommodation that way. Really sorry to hear the plans didn’t work out though.

Sorry to hear the news. All you can do is sit back, have a beer or three, and then regroup. I’m sure a solution will present itself at the right time. I look forward to seeing everyone again at the next event, where ever or whenever it may be.

  16. Shocking!
Makes me sad to hear that. (And to know how much effort you spend on this!)
The only thing that can comfort us is the hope, that there will be an alternative event this year.

  17. Oh the sad news ๐Ÿ™ I wasn’t planning on even getting to Turkey and still I’m feeling sad for all of us ๐Ÿ™ I do hope that Barry and other organizers get things sorted out and that there will still be will-power to make LockCon 2010 happen ๐Ÿ™‚

One vote for Sneek from here, it was a nice place and easy to get there and cheap ๐Ÿ™‚ Would be fun to meet everyone again and have fun with locks and stuff, I’ve been in the machining world too long with my life so i should cuddle my locks again ๐Ÿ™‚

I have no idea if I have the money to attend (Sneek), but I hope I’ll figure something out.

Jord, if I’m abl to come this year, would it be possible to get some sort of accomodation from you and Kaija again? ๐Ÿ™‚ I could teach you some new tricks with the machines ๐Ÿ˜‰

  18. jord says:

Hi Jaako, yes we can work things out no problemo you are welcome to stay with us.

Hope for you that the flight is cheap to Bremen.

    Hope to see you soon.

    Gr. Jord & Kaija

  19. Jord, thank you for your hospitality ๐Ÿ™‚ The flights are cheap, last time I visited I paid 120 EUR total from the flights and the bus trips, (flight 90, bus 30) and the flight cost included 20 EUR for a bag and 14 EUR insurance ๐Ÿ˜€ So yeah, that wasn’t much and probably can get that money from somewhere ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t know where to get spending money, but perhaps I have to machine tools again for sale and if they sell good, donate a good share from them to TOOOL ๐Ÿ™‚

Please, note that an EUROPEAN contest had nothing to do in Turkey, since Turkey is not a part of Europe.
