A great event!<\/p>\n<p>I did follow quite a few classes as the schedule had some <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.elf-convention2009.com\/en\/main\/article\/programme\">interesting topics<\/a><\/u>. And besides meeting old friends I made quite some new ones too. Not to mention my collection of tools also grew considerably (and my wallet is empty). I will share with you these hand made hobb&#8217;s picks, used to manipulate (simple) lever locks. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/hobbs-elf.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/hobbs-elf-700.jpg\" alt=\"hobb's picks from the ELF meeting in Poland 2009\" \/><\/a><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The most interesting tools are the one with <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/3-in-1.jpg\">three handles<\/a><\/u>. I do not even now what specific lock these &#8216;three in one&#8217; picks are used for, but I do like the technique used to make them.  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/elf-3-in-1-tip.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/elf-3-in-1-tip-700.jpg\" alt=\"close up 3 in 1 pick\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I wrote in a <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/?p=171\">previous posting<\/a><\/u> about the popular orenco lock in spain that uses a simple yet effective <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/images\/orenco-spanish-lever.jpg\">countermeasure<\/a><\/u> against a classical hobb&#8217;s pick. It seems the kind of pick shown above will be able to open these kind of locka because of the shape of the fingers\/tensioner. Although I still I wonder why it is &#8216;three in one&#8217;? Is the middle feeler used to tension the lock? Anyone got an idea what kind of lock this pick was designed for?<\/p>\n<p>The other hobb&#8217;s picks are <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/hobbs-6-7.jpg\">regular ones<\/a><\/u> that <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/elf-6-7-different-diameter.jpg\">vary in diameter<\/a><\/u> and <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/hollow-different-diameter.jpg\">shape<\/a><\/u>, but nothing special.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/high-security-door.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/polish-door-seal-700.jpg\" alt=\"Polish seal on a high security lock\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately we did not have much time to see Warsaw, but did manage to shoot some images of a <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/high-security-door.jpg\">high security door<\/a><\/u> there. The door is not only protected by a <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/gerda.jpg\">Gerda high security lock<\/a><\/u>, but also uses <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/polish-seal.jpg\">seals<\/a><\/u> for intrusion detection. I did not have much time to figure out the details of the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlotte.nl\/blackbag\/polish-seal2.jpg\">sealing mechanism<\/a><\/u>, but is sure is intriguing &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>(* update 19\/05: MH made a nice comment: Interesting seal, it seems to use the owner\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s fingerprint &#8211; for \u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c5\u201cnormal\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u009d intruders there would be some kind of psychological barrier to leave their own fingerprints behind\u00c3\u00a2\u00e2\u201a\u00ac\u00c2\u00a6)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just got back from the ELF 2009 convention in Warsaw Poland.
