And I always keep an eye out for new techniques and profiles.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-keys.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-keys-700.jpg\" alt=\"EVVA ALS demo keys\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The image above shows two keys to the (relatively new) EVVA ALS system. As you can see EVVA removed <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-tips.jpg\">some material from the tip<\/a><\/u> of the key, making that part much thinner. Flattening the tip is done by more manufacturers, like the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/nemef-km-ces-tip-undercut.jpg\">Nemef\/CES on the Dutch KM profile<\/a><\/u>, and I was really curious how they made the core more thin on the tip. So when a friend got his hands on an EVVA ALS demo lock I could not wait to take it apart.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-profile.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-profile-700.jpg\" alt=\"EVVA ALS profile\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The solution by EVVA is clever &#8230; as always. They just milled a thin slot <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-cut-between-4-and-5.jpg\">between pin 4 and 5<\/a><\/u>, and <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-core-plate.jpg\">inserted a small metal plate<\/a><\/u> with the <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-key-plate.jpg\">&#8216;thin tip profile&#8217;<\/a><\/u>. A simple and elegant way of making your keyway more narrow. The image above shows you the keyway <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-profile.jpg\">with and without<\/a><\/u> the plate inserted.<\/p>\n<p>The interesting thing is that if you make a key that is entirely as thin as the tip part, it will get stuck at the plate. The wide part of the original key will align the thin part <u><a href=\"http:\/\/blackbag.toool.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/evva-als-key-over-plate.jpg\">right in front of the plate<\/a><\/u>, while a complete thin one will hit the walls of the plate and need some jiggling to enter all the way.<\/p>\n<p>All in all a pretty clever design &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One thing that always fascinates me is high security keys and restricted keyblanks.
